Memories of Mom - Friday 5

This is very challenging for me. My mother is only 17 years older than I am, and we had a sister love/hate type relationship, most of my life, while I was growing up. I was mostly raised by my grandmother, whether mom was there or not. I will try to focus on the positives.

1. GREASE - The Movie. We saw it so many times, in the theater, I lost count. We were big dollar movie goers, and I keep wanting to think that was weekly, but how long could this movie have run? I don't really remember. We saw it over 20 times. Fersher!
*singing* "We go together.."

2. ET - The Movie. My mom piled all of us neighborhood kids, from Grandma's neighborhood into her Chevy Impala and took us to the Loma Theater, in Point Loma. There was nothing better than sharing that movie with all the boys. I was the only girl in the neighborhood.

3. Star Wars - The Movie. Are we seeing a pattern here? We saw this movie at this theater, in the valley (Mission Valley), that was in a round building. The line to get in, wrapped the building four times. We took a city bus there and stood all day long, it seemed. It was like being at Disneyland!

4. Mom only missed the birth of one grandchild, that she was aware of being born. My youngest. Labor was induced with all three of my babies. The first two children were born at 00:42 and 00:47 (those minutes after midnight), so she didn't leave work early to see Girlie come into the world. She surprised us all and arrived at 13:57, in the afternoon! (I think she's still pushy like that, too. *smile*)

I can't imagine having a baby and mom not being there. She was good under pressure. She's also a good liar, and was able to calm me while my ex husband ran for a doctor/nurse. "No, honey, the baby is not right there, just lay back!" Under a "pit," I believed her.

5. My mom has always trusted me. She has often said that I didn't teach her how to mother my younger brother, that I was raised with. I always felt that the trust wasn't worth breaking and maybe it was fear.. but I liked my freedom's and didn't ever want to risk losing them. With this trust, though came a yearning for her to be more.. my friend's complained about curfews.. I never really had one. I always felt they were loved more. I know, today, I was just responsible enough, that she could trust me.

I found the perfect Mother's Day Card for her. Now I can only type it here, because I forgot I had it and didn't mail it to her. I usually can't find a card for my mom. They are usually sappy and just don't fit. I did send her roses. I hope she got them. *sigh*

HighSchool Memories - Friday Five

1. Football Games and Wrestling Tournaments

Here's the juice.. I dated a football player.. I was the idiot freezing, alone, in the stands, at all games.. dressed in school colors, of course. Then I dated a wrestler, from Clairemont High School (Barry McKnight has fallen off the face of the earth, tho!). Our school sponsored a big tourney and well, I sat with his school, in our school colors and was a living traitor. LOL Then one of my bestest friends got hurt, from our school.. so I went and did "ice on hot guys neck" therapy. It was my public service to Anthony Patton. I should call him and ask him if he remembers this. He probably doesn't. I was quite invisible in that capacity, to him.

2. Seminary - San Diego 5th and 11th Ward

We had a ward boundary between our apartment, with my mom, and my grandparent's house. When we lived with mom, we lived in 11th ward. When we moved back to grandma's 18 trillian times, we were back in 5th ward. 5th and 11th ward combined many youth activities, including seminary, until my senior year.. I had the best of BOTH worlds.

I miss Sam Edge, the most. He knew me in BOTH worlds.

3. ASB. Associated Student Body - I was the VP.

The VP is the dirt job. really. You do whatver the Prez doesn't want to do or won't do. I broke my foot the last weekend of my junior year. I had to plan and coordinate the Home Coming Dance, that summer, for October of the next school year. It was MY function. I survived a whole semester, as the VP. Then the change in the attendance laws dropped my grades and made me ineligible for student council. 'nuff said.

4. MYAC - Mayor's Youth Advisory Council with Maureen O'Connor

I worked with a bunch of other geeks for a democrat! *sigh*

5. SADD - Student's Against Drunk Driving - #1 Home Coming Float 1986

I was the arm hanging off the back of the tow truck. We had a grim reaper and a homecoming couple.. that's it. We just towed a wreck around.. we rocked!

YES, I've always been a geek! I resisted the urge to say "IT ENDED!" Because that was memorable, in itself!

Name That Teacher

Redneck Woman makes me feel that I can do this challenge.. even as messed up as my childhood was..

I also was more stable in my dysfunctional family when I lived with my grandparents.. I just did it off/on my entire life, growing up. I was born to a teenaged divorcing mom.. and well.. it has had its many challenges in life.

I started Kindergarten, with my grandmother at my side. I went to both morning and afternoon sessions. We didn't have full-day K then.. but somehow I was able to attend both.. who knows why or how.. I just bet it wouldn't be allowed today.

First grade was a nightmare. I went to so many schools that I have a few scattered memories, but I don't really know any teacher's names. I finished first grade at Birney Elementary, in San Diego, where I had to put my head on my desk for kissing Ernie Valdez, in line! LOL (Once a week, I walked the opposite way home, from school, in first grade, to my brownie leader's home. This was the way Ernie walked! Other than this and some baby chicks we cooked in an incubator and then played with after we rolled up the carpet.. I don't remember anything else of first grade.)

I stayed at Birney for 2nd grade (Mrs. Harris) and then half of 3rd grade (Mrs. Yates).

In the middle of 3rd grade, we moved back to grandma's. I don't remember the name of my teacher, back at Carson Elementary, but I remember that she was very pregnant. Willie Coyle had a cast on his arm and she was hit breaking up a fight, on one of the last days of school.

4th grade was Mrs. wow. I can see her.

5th grade was Mr. McCan. This was the year that we learned about the Holocaust and met one of his relatives that had spent time in a concentration camp. Very moving experience. This was not my first male teacher. I had one other, during summer school, at Birney.. for oceanography.

6th grade was Mr. Youngdale. I sat at his desk and graded papers. I was like a teacher's assistant. He tried to get me pushed through to jr high school and I'm so glad that didn't work out. After I got to jr high, I was lost all the time and a social mess. Going a year earlier would have only been more traumatic.

7th grade started at the jr high school. I only remember things that happened.. not really names. My Spanish teacher was in her sixties and used to spit on us. My pre-alebra teacher used to sing "everybody's working for the weekend." My home-ec teacher scared me and I felt I knew more about cooking and sewing than she did. She did intimidate me, though. My History or Geography teacher was scary, too. Everyone referred to her as a witch and I'll never forget how we fell-out when she announced her birthday was October 31st.

8th and 9th grade was also at the jr high school. It was my introduction to electronic typewriters and tutoring. P.E. was torture. It didn't have to be but my teacher was a sadist. LOL

10th grade started at the high school. I mostly remember Mr. Garris. He was my art teacher. The only problem is that I didn't take an art class. I signed up for "Crafts" because I can't draw. We spent too much time drawing still-life and I thought it would suck life from me. Our TA ended up being a student and a senior.. and asked me out. Oh Eddie Echevarria! *sigh* I was so naive.

My English teacher was Ed Singer. His mother also was a teacher at Kearny. I really liked him. He was a great teacher. He inspired me. I stayed in his classes for four semesters. I transferred into business courses after that. I continued to stop in and read what his class was reading, though. Novels were easier without the tests!

My Geometry teacher wasn't a teacher at all and I can't remember his name. I just remember we had community tests and I learned nothing the first semester. I transferred to "the other teacher" for the second semester. That was the semester that you apply what you learned the first semester.. and since I learned nothing.. I struggled.

My science teacher was a trip. He was the basketabll coach but I don't remember his name. He was very real with us. One time, someone asked him where he lived.. He said, "You know when you turn down Genesee Avenue, and head down into the canyon and just as you get up to speed, the light, at the bottom of the hill turns yellow and you have to stop for some asshole that is coming out of that new subdivision? Well, I'm that asshole"

My Senior year is where I seemed to come alive.
Dr. Short taught governement. My business/computer class teacher was our ASB (Assoc. Student Body) Advisor. Mrs. McSomething (McMullen?), I think. I hate that I can't remember her name. It will come to me in the middle of the night, next week, and I'll sit straight up and say her name out loud. I'm sure. *giggle*

I spent a lot of time, in high school, with the Wrestling Coach (Varner) and the Football Coach (again, I can see him.. hmmm). I had adapted PE by that time because I was a clutz and always on crutches anyway.

By the second semester of my senior year.. I hated school. I had spent my life thriving in school because home life was so bad. School was my escape. No one really knew my dysfunctional life when I was at school. By the time I could drive.. the sky was the limit and I was itching to just get away.. anywhere..

When I turned 18, in April of 1987, I was ready to drop out. I no longer needed that hell that was such a game. It wasn't about learning, anymore. It was about a game that you had to learn the rules to, in each class, and then endure. When the attendance laws changed, in January, of that year, I instantly went from straight A's to F's, and really I didn't care anymore.

My mom had always said that if I could carry straight A's and not be there, then I obviously didn't need to be there. I would go for tests and turn in homework via different channels (wish we had email then) but in general, I spent my time in libraries, reading, doing family history, or going to book signings.

OH Mr. Garris always called me HOLLY. For three years I was Holly, no matter how I corrected him. He was a crazy old man that loved teaching, even though he was more a military commando art instructor. Eddie saved my life in that class. I found creative ways to do my projects and managed to get on the teacher's good side.. so enduring was a little easier.

2. Do you have a routine in the morning or is it anything goes? Depends on the day.. but I hate mornings.

4. What hand do you write with? Right or Left. Right
5. When getting dressed if wearing jeans or pants do you put them on first or your shirt? Jeans first.
6. After you get your jeans or pants on your legs do you button and zip them before putting your shoes and sock on? Not always

7. When using toothpaste do you squeeze it from the top, bottom or middle? The bottom or the middle. Depends on the time factor.. there is always another time.

8. Which way do you put the toilet paper on the roll? Under or roll over? As I get older, I like when someone else puts it on the roll. So it doesn't matter, anymore. There is not right or wrong side.. no matter what you think! *smirk*

9. When brushing or combing your hair do you use your right or left hand? Right
10. While eating cereal do you read the box? Not anymore.
11. Do you change radio stations if a commercial comes on? I rarely listen to the radio unless its talk radio, so no. Mostly its someone's IPOD or the laptop plugged into the car stereo.

12. Do you channel surf? No. I don't like to control the remote control.
13. What hand do you put your knife in if cutting meat? Right
14. When watching a TV show do you get up during the commercials? When I watch tv, which is rare, I watch movies, or Glenn and when its over.. I'm done.

15. If you don’t get up during the commercials do you mute them or change the channel? No. That's Girlie's job to make me crazy.

16. Do you sleep with the radio or TV on? No. I sleep with the fan on for white noise.
17. How do you sleep? Left or right side, back or stomach. left seems to be routine lately.. or in some fashion on the left-front. This started from having surgery on the right side, though.. interesting... I hadn't thought about that.

18. Do you put your right or left shoe on first? Left
19. Do you put your seat belt on before starting your car? No
20. When walking do you put your left or right foot first? Left
21. When answering the phone do you put it up to your right or left ear? Left
22. During phone conversations do you switch ears? No. It's my phone ear.

23. When talking do you talk with your hands? Yes

24. Do you part your hair on the left or right side or in the center? Left
25. When reading a book do you hold it in your left or right hand? Left, because my right hand is free to write, type, chat, eat, drink. *grin*

26. When washing clothes do you put the clothes first or the detergent first? Detergent
27. Fabric softener or dryer sheet? Both. Depends on what I'm washing/drying. If its mine, it gets the ball.. in general, the sheet. Fabric softener is evil to hand crochet face cloths.

28. Do you sort light and dark clothes before washing? Yes. You want pink socks?

29. Do you open doors with your right left hand? Right
30. When making soup that is condensed do you add a whole can of water? I rarely eat condensed soup because I'm allergic to everything in a can of soup, it seems. I guess a whole can.

31. When playing cards what hand do you put the cards in right or left? Left
32. What side of the bed do you sleep on right or left? The top!

33. When drying clothes that need to be hung up right away do you hang them or do you leave them and then have to fluff them to get the wrinkles out? I fluff them.

34. Do you Iron? I have a steamer or I throw it in the dryer with a wet towel.
35. When entering the house do you wipe your feet first? Yes, and that is about as far as shoes stay on my feet. Please leave your shoes at the door, too.

36. Do you eat the end in a of the loaf of bread? Yes, but not the first time I open the loaf, usually.

37. When eating with a spoon do you use a little or big spoon or a little spoon?I prefer a small one. I guess I extra prefer a small one.

I received an email from the group Bloggers Anonymous, from Snowbea, asking about screen names..

Since not all of my Multiply Associates have known me very long, I thought I'd pipe my answer here..

My screen-name/niche has evolved.

When I first joined YIM, I used a variation of my real name as an ID. (It sounded like a good idea, at the time!)

Interestingly, also, at the time, I also had a land-line telephone. The main reason that I don't have a land-line telephone now has a lot to do with my evolution, as well.

One day, I received a delivery of long-stemmed red roses, a stuffed animal, a mylar "I love you" balloon, and a box of chocolate truffles. Ironically, the sender had no idea that I thought truffles were Gold. The stuffed animal was also a frog, and the sender not only didn't know how personal that was, to me, but didn't choose the type of stuffed animal, either, it turned out.

I really didn't think much of the gift, other than being surprised.. until the next delivery arrived, about a week, or so, later.

It was an internet company printed check, from what turned out to be a car dealership in the midwestern United States. It was for an amazing amount of money. It was legit, as far as it appeared, and IT HAD MY NAME ON IT!

Quickly, two of my chat friends turned into raging lunatics. Both were claiming that the check was theirs. They had somewhat legit stories and explanations.. but that all quickly deteriorated to pure crap!

I know, for sure, who sent the flowers and gifts. I have no idea who sent the check, or who had the check sent. I had made it perfectly clear, all along, with everyone, that "Heidi don' t play that receive my check, cash it, and western union it to you" game.

I was rather angry to find out that this check was not a mistake.. but an intentional trap.

Both of my "friends" in Nigeria, were "American's on Contract with the Nigerian Government."

When I dropped my Yahoo ID, one of them called me. He didn't speak very much English, at all. (I had confronted both about the check and asked them to identify the sender, because they were both claiming it to be their own money. Neither could ID the sender and both were full of crap excuses!)

Sadly, I don't know, nor really care if they both knew each other. Anything is possible. I had been suspicious of one of these men because his photos were too perfect.. model type perfect. I guess they figured I was born "last night" and "in the dark".

I contacted one of my Egyptian online friends and asked several questions, looking for an ID that was in Arabic. I used that ID for YIM. My only real dilemma came when I decided to blog.

I spent weeks trying to think of an ID to use that would be unique and yet keep me incognito. A while back, before this time, I had used a Nick, on IRC that was MsTess. How that came about what a brain lapse.

My mother had sent me a greeting card about a Tussie-Mussie. A Tussie-Mussie is a bouquet of flowers with specific meaning tied to the plants/flowers used to make it. Its an ideal type of screen-name because each of us is made up of "our own" combination.

I hadn't remembered the name correctly, and chose the Nick "Tessie," though. This evolved to MsTess and sometimes just Tess. Without knowing it, however, I had named myself the name of a sister of a good friend of mine. That made Tess even more personal and special, to me.

In one of my thought sessions, about my Y! Blog, I was really bothered that I couldn't figure out a name to use, that was unique to me, yet kept me hidden from the public, too. Tess came to mind. I created a last name for Tess, in what I like to refer to as "true J.K. Rowling Fashion." I chose "London."

So Tess London was born.

I could have a pen-name.. a pseudonym.. a nom de plume!

You will still see some of my ID's and screen-names reference Tess, in many different ways.

One day, it hit me. In the business world, its good practice to have your business name appear as "first" on a list as possible.. this is why you see "A" or numbers added to the beginning of names.. the phone book is listed alphabetically. I need a tow truck, the list starts with "A"...

APlaceForTess was born!

After two years of blogging, Tess ran into a need to go into hiding. Sadly, it was just necessary for my sanity and well-being. A true blogger can not just quit blogging, though. It really doesn't work like that. It was my first thought to leave the Y! I had stood up to looney's in Y!Land before.. The crazies are everywhere, right? Well.. my biggest problem was that my "crazy" was linked to someone I really liked and respected in 360.

That respect was enough to have me rethink my screen name. I buried the Y!360 Tess. Tess will always be a part of me. I still use a variation of Tess on eBay and Imeem. I think she will never die while I am still breathing. I'll let you know if she ever receives snail mail. LOL

Now, here I was.. back to square one... what to use as a blog ID. Kenny Chesney helped me with that. *wink*

I am a Cali Girl. I've always been a Cali Girl. But this Cali Girl was in Carolina... I am a transplant.. the wheels started to tumble..

I have a thing for using "z" to pluralize words. My family history niche name is FamilyHugz! With that in mind, I twisted Carolina into CarolinaDreamz.

I quickly set out to niche market my new name. I changed many of my ID's. I created new social networking groups. About this time, Y!Mash came on the scene. My "name" there is "Heidi, the Blogger formerly known as Tess." It works for me.

I registered the dot-com domain. I created my google ID. I set up email. I opened an account of Etsy, Facebook, MyBlogLog, My Yearbook (which I hate), Skype, and Del.icio.us! 99% of the CarolinaDreamz you find out there, in 'netland is ME.

I do have an alterior motive. I am an entrepreneur. My niche building and link dropping is part of a grander plan that hasn't been established yet.

Happy Birthday Richard!

Its been a rough week, adjusting to home life, while still not well. How do I feel? I feel like there is a cut in the side of my gut! *smile*

My pain medicine runs out by 2am. I've been religious about writing down my dosages, to make sure I don't screw this up. The medicine that was not lasting four hours, in the hospital, was moved to six hour doses, when I came home. UGH

I only took one pill, at each of my last two dosage times and ouch is too small of a word to describe how that worked out. I'm waiting to hear back, from an alternate surgeon to see what they can do for me.. my surgeon is out of town and the other surgeon is in surgery.. figures! I hate the idea of paying a co-pay for one or two doses, too, though. UGH squared.

I've been trying to sort some numbers to file my taxes, as the state extension is shorter than the federal extension, but you have to do the federal paperwork before the state, so that makes a whole lot of sense, eh?

I haven't turned in transcripts for last school year and still need to order some curriculum for this year, too. UGH cubed

Sorry for the update delay.. I'm just exhausted.

I'm amazed that my gall bladder ultrasounds, over the last four years, have hidden the truth, or flat out lied? I know that there will be a change to the way my surgeon, as well as those he knows, looks to diagnose, now.. who would have known?

I also wonder how much the five days of hospital, surgery, nuclear medicine testing, ultrasounds, and two emergency room visits are going to cost? I had to pay $100 co-pay for the first ER visit.. oh yeah.. there is an ambulance ride too, to pay for.. oh boy! how fun! I can't wait?? LOL

No amount of money could help me not have a daily headache, though. That is the first major difference, that I've noticed since I woke up from surgery.

They say that my over all health, over the last four years, can be directly related to this "toxic" and "poisonous" growing gall bladder. I'm amazed at their "for years" words the most. Who would know that something, so direct, could cause such health hells for years??

I'm hopeful to less "I don't feel well for no real reason" in my future. I wonder if I should write a letter to my primary care physician, that quit, last year, feeling he couldn't help me. I'm sure he just thought, after so many years, that I was making up how rotten I felt. Maybe just a nice note, from me, that says "guess what? this is why, have a great life"?? I just may be able to get a new doctor now, too??

I also wonder.. if this is all the reason's for the passing out episodes I've been plagued with, over the last few months?

OH, btw, a normal gall bladder is 2-2.5 inches (5.1-6.4cm). Mine was 10 inches (25.4cm). I don't know how ultrasound works. I was told it was "elongated" or "enlarged", but the surgeon was shocked and says he's never seen one so large, so I wonder why something four times larger than normal didn't show grossly over-sized in ultrasound?

I had a ton of inabilities to post this, from my own laptop, mobile, this morning, so I'm posting now. I am post-op and will update that soon.
Thank you to all the kind well wishes I've been receiving. For some reason, Firefox isn't liking Y!360, and I can see comments, but can not post there, at all. Hopefully, by now, everyone knows how to see me over here, so I'll just update the hospital vacation, here.

1. I'm so comfortable! For the last four and a half hours, I've been "hooked up" to these compression boots. They are plugged into an air line, and they vibrate and compress up to my thigh, alternating legs. I know why I need them, medically, but aside from that need, I feel like I'm having a great regular leg massage!

2. Morphine is my best friend, today. The Delauded, from the ER, seemed to come on stronger, but didn't last as long. Once my poor arms recover from the burn/shock of the pain medication injection, its a leveled pain control.

3. A hiccup feels like a punch in the stomach. I hope to not sneeze for a week, or more.

4. I think my arms or skin, in general, is in hyper sensitive mode. My arms look like a war zone, and I hope to keep my current IV for anesthesia, but I think I heard its too small. Ouch.

5. Nuclear test results showed no activity of the gall bladder. It is dead, enlarged, and yucky! *giggle at yucky*

6. Broth tastes really good when you have had no food or drink, by mouth, for 14 hours.

7. My new surgeon has wonderful bedside manner.

8. The procedure is called Open Cholecystectomy. I am unable to have the laparoscopic procedure because my major incision, from my gastric bypass (my gastric bypass is officially titled, Vertically Transected, Silastic Ring banded, Roux en Y Gastric Bypass with a Gastrostomy and a gastrostomy site marker" (TSRBVGB), meaning my stomach was completely transected, a ring/band was placed around my new pouch, that acts solely as a food reservoir, and my intestines were re-routed into a Y shape, to connect both the old stomach and the new pouch to my intestines, allowing for a large percentage of nutrient absorption to be bypassed or avoided *forced malabsorption*) sits where the camera needs to be for this type of procedure. There is too much scar tissue that makes this a difficult procedure and the complications that are possible, are not worth the risk.

9. I will have a new 6-7 inch diagonal scar, on the upper right side of my abdomen. Can we say "battlefield"? *wink*

10. I'm going to rest again, now that the pain medicine is working. Wish you were here! *smile* Catch you again, after recovery..

A Few Minutes Break of Recovery

I just pushed the morphine drip button, so I may have just a few minutes to leave a small update here.
I've been having internet problems and unable to post to blog. While its currently working, I wanted to briefly check in.
The surgery went well.
The surgeon is shocked at the toxic hell he found to remove.
He said it was 10 inches long. I'll look up what a normal one should be, soon, unless one of you knows and leaves it in comment. The surgeon said its the largest he's ever seen.
I've had three ultrasounds of it, over the last few years, for many different reasons. The surgeon even said, when he saw the ultrasound that it appeared large, but normal and he couldn't remove it unless the nuclear test proved it bad, which it did.
It has been sent to pathology. He said he feels its been in its state of hell, growing, etc, for YEARS.
When I talked to my mother, a little while ago, I reali zed my head didn't hurt.
Any of you that really know me, know I'm plagued with headaches and migraines. My head hurt, last night, after I started the morphine and was real bad just before surgery.
It will be extremely fascinating to see what other illness, ill-effects, etc, that I have been living with, including shoulder pain and back pain change as I recover more...

I'm typing this from a hospital bed.
I called 9-1-1 last night in excruciating pain.
I had an ultrasound that showed no stones but the gall bladder is elongated or swollen.
I was released from the emergency room, at midnight, with instructions to return if the pain was worse or if I developed a fever of over 100 degrees.
I was still in a lot of pain. Breathing and walking were difficult and I was not comfortable to be going home. I was supposed to follow-up with a surgeon in the morning.
Two hours after I got home, I had that 100+ degree fever. By 4am, I woke up shaking and freezing, with a temperature of 103.4!
Back to the emergency room.. agonizing trip!
They admitted me for observation.
The surgeon finally arrived when I was trying to post this blog entry. He made me feel hopeful that we'd be having surgery tomorrow morning. Then he went to see the ultrasound and came back and said that it was enlarged, but in general, looked fine!
He ordered a nuclear test that could prove my gall bladder is broken. I have to go without pain medicine as that interrupts with the test. So, I'm hoping we do it soon, now, before I go back to being unable to breathe in pain, again.
He scheduled the surgery for tomorrow morning because its easier to cancel it than it is to try to schedule it late.
I just want them to find out what is wrong, because something is clearly wrong.
I'll check back in when I come up for air or have more information. If I have surgery in the morning, he says that I'll be here for five days.

A. In a restaurant: balsamic vinaigrette! At home: Creamy Italian made at home with Ken's Light Northern Italian, yum!

On average, what size tip do you leave at a restaurant?
A. I believe in over-tipping when its deserved, and in requesting the same wait-staff when I return. This usually comes back to benefit us, in return. We don't wait in lines to "pay", we just pass it along with the usual, "thank you", and we are taken well care of, this way. I used to pay a percentage, of minimum 20%, now we consider more in our tips. I've learned a lot, listening to waitresses talk, one time. They don't care the cost of your bill. They care that they are "thanked" for what they've done for you. So, you could go sit for coffee, with a friend, and they'd work hard to refill you and ask you if you need things, and yet your bill would be low. So, I consider time, when I'm having business "meetings" too (how much did I cost them to tie up this booth that group that fit it would pay?). A general thumb, for us, in smaller establishments, since we don't eat out much anymore, is to leave a similar tip, no matter what the bill. $5 speaks for a quick lunch, whether there are 2 or 3 of us. I firmly believe that those who require a minimum tip of 20% for parties of 8 or more and add it to the bill before I see it, would get more if they didn't do that to me! I never leave less than 20%, and leaving a penny on top of your tip, is a compliment. If your service is very poor, 10% is the amount of your bill that the help-staff must claim as a tip, to their employer, whether you leave it or not. I would never not leave 10% because that amount is their pay, and the industry is really underpaying them (are you aware of their hourly rates? I was shocked to find out!) and everyone has a bad day. (and again, those who work in customer service that hate people, should stay home! LOL)

A: Not very well, anymore. I still speak some Spanish. I used to speak it well, but I learned sign language and it really replaced a lot of my memory of Spanish. A few months ago, I had this dream that I was back in Cali helping someone in a store, that spoke no English.. when I woke up, a lot of my Spanish memory had returned. Ironically, I also have this little problem of signing the wrong name, in public, at check-out register's, now, too, though. I always attempt to sign the name that I had when I spoke more Spanish. Weird, huh? I can also say a few things in Arabic, but I can't hold any real conversations outside of English, anymore.

Tess Spills Some Beans

After much contemplation and outright stewing over this issue, I decided to bring it to blog and let it all hang out. Its not "slander" if its true, right? Okay, so maybe I can be a little anonymous about this.. but I won't lie to anyone who out right asks me the right questions, either. Fair enough?

Okay.. so where do I start?

About ten years ago, give or take whatever, I had a chat "friend" named Kathleen, who lived near Bremmerton, Washington. Kathleen was divorced with 2 or 3 young boys, in an apartment on social security disability. She dabbled with graphic design and she hosted a free site, probably at Geocities, if I remember right, with free personal web graphic sets.

I have and had no problem with the above statistical information of this "friend". Life hands us all different cards and we do what we can, in most circumstances.

Kathleen quickly became one of those friend's who would offer to help you with something, or give you something she could design or had knowledge about, "for a fee". On the other hand, she also seemed to breathe to drill me with questions to fill her own empty knowledge bank. The scales were very uneven in this arena, but I felt that it was tiny, in the grand perspective of life, and I could push through this and just try to open up to her.

Fast forward slightly..

Kathleen decides that she wants to venture into web design and sell her graphic sets, keeping her sets related to "kids" free for personal use. Her domain was something with kats or katz and kids or kidz in it, if I recall correctly. I'm big on using "z" for "s" so I'm not sure if she did or not, now. It doesn't really matter for this story.

Kathleen and I shared each other's dreams of our businesses that we were building, among the hustle and bustle of being young, single mom's. My dream was a little wider than hers, but she had the skills of graphic design on her side and that was much more than I could say for my own designing that I was doing.

My business plan had some web design, with hired graphic designer's, as a side note to a much larger picture that included everything that the small or home-based business could/would need to function in everyday, virtual becoming America.

As time passed, Kathleen started web designing. I don't remember on what scale that she did this. She seemed to never need to sleep and had a brain that could absorb orange juice fed in very large quantities. My brain fog life just could not keep up with the knowledge base that she was acquiring. At the same time, we still were on a give/take relationship, at this point. I gave. She took and offered a joking "for a fee" response to anything I asked about.

My frustrations and worries for Kathleen and her boys only grew larger, as she would talk about eviction notices for her apartment, then her mother bailing her out, with rent money, or taking her to a local food bank. Let me not forget to inform you that her money was leaving her pocket's, left and right to domain name registration and web hosting fees. Every day she had either a new discovery or a huge dilemma. She exhausted me and I became very busy planning a wedding.. my own.

In a rather short period of time, we drifted apart, got caught up into our own "new" lives and found each other, again, about two years, or so, later.

Kathleen was doing very well, for herself and her little family. She had stopped playing with graphics, staying up all night, and was also not designing web pages anymore.

Her business focused on domain name registrations and web hosting. Sound familiar to anyone that knows me? *smile*

Kathleen had moved out of her little apartment, had a house built for her family and her business, and had several employees that came to her home business, each day, who pretty much ran the show for her, while she was very busy with being a mom to busy and challenging children. I'm not sure how her mother fit into all of this, but she was an every day part of conversation, as well.

At the time, I was still living in Jacksonville, Florida. She hooked me up to chat with her ex-husband and well, he was a really nice guy. I'm not quite sure how to put the puzzle together for each of them, because I knew them well enough to wonder why they had divorced, not much unlike my circumstance, then, with my ex-husband.

He even had a hosting account for his personal domain, with her business, too!

Okay, so here I was, two year's later, in pretty much the same financial boat I was in before, as I shared my dreams of what I wanted my business to become.. and here she was, someone I couldn't quite communicate with.. someone above me and out of my social league, so to speak.

I looked into Kathleen's business because she had set up a very simple, easy to modify and personalize, knowledge base of files, forms, legalities, etc for the base business model I desired. I could feed off some of her knowledge and accomplishments, the way she wanted it done.. "for a fee". I never really considered that I was paying her to be my friend, and for the most part, I adapted her models to help my own business start where I wanted it to go.

I was adding web hosting and internet resources to my virtual assisting business, to further some income models for me, while I could increase what I could offer to my established and growing business circle. It seemed win/win and I was very pleased that she was willing to help me, too.

For about two years, I registered all my domains through Kathleen's business. I paid her monthly for web hosting and suffered tremendously with a huge lack of customer service or care on the part of her tech support. I had too much knowledge for them, and when I had finally given up trying to help myself, I was insulted with their lack of listening skills and the constant merry-g0-round of emails that really didn't help me, at all, and only seemed to really waste my time.

So, one day I emailed Kathleen directly and explained to her my serious issues. She was very kind and fixed my problems right away. I felt as if her tech support wanted to teach me how to double-click when my problems were about broken links in a system that was their side supported! She also told me to only contact her, in the future and that she would take care of me. I felt this great sense of relief. I finally felt that I could take back some that I had spent year's giving. Not that I want any friendship equally balanced.. but there is a point where fair needs to play ball, too.

In October 2001, I finally found my niche. I registered my domain name: FromMyOwnOffice.com. It was my central nervous system to my home and business life. My children and I all had our web based email at that domain and it was quite a catchy phrase that fit well on my business cards, too. Life was good.

About a year, or so, later, Kathleen's business had expanded to some different arena's. She was quite secretive about her changes and I wasn't quite sure where her business was based and what she actually did anymore.. but she was doing well and I was proud of how far she had come.

As part of her expansion, she contracted with a different company for better virtual dedicated server's. She offered her current client's the option to move to the new server's or to wait it out for the complete transition.. that I don't think ever fully happened, the way we thought it was going to happen. I moved to the new server's immediately and expanded my business avenue greatly.

Before the complete transfer to the new system.. something happened that devastated her business, or so it appeared, over night. From what I could understand, whichever group of server's that I was not hosting on, were "spammed" or hit in some fashion, and the domains she had (for herself and her clients) on those servers were frozen. This would not have been an overwhelming damaging situation for her, because she was split on two different companies and could move them over, if time was in her favor.. which its not in a virtual demanding world.

At the same time that her clients were pulling out, because their domains were frozen and inaccessible, her own automated billing domains were also hosted on the frozen server's. She quickly went into litigation and fell into a growing tornado of nightmares. She couldn't bill her clients, so she couldn't pay her own bills. Her client files were just as inaccessible on the server's, too. Overnight, we were given "bankruptcy" notices and a final closing date to move our domains to our own new hosting server's.

I had a little cushion, because my domains were transferable and not part of the litigation with the other parent company. My credit cards weren't being billed for the hosting that I was receiving, but I was immediately threatened.

Two days before the final date, I emailed notices of name server changes. I had moved my domains, temporarily to a horrible hosting option, that later came back to bite me, but not as hard as what Kathleen did to me and my business.

None of my domains were transferred. NONE! I had my client base on paper and my own hard drive's, so I didn't lose that, but all my client's lost their domains, too. My children and I immediately had no email, too.

Kathleen's business vanished, or so it appeared. Within a few weeks, my domain name registrations had a new admin business name contact on them. I contacted her, briefly, and was pitched sales info for how to register with the new business. I had already paid to renew them and host them for a year somewhere else!

What I didn't know, was that she had continued her endless idea's of future domain names and had set up a new niche, for herself, and as is part of the American dream, not a whole lot changed for her business model, it just got a face lift and a new name. She had learned some hard lessons. Or so I thought.

For the last 3-4 years, after I had moved away from Florida, moving my business and home addresses.. I waited for the anniversary dates of the domain name registrations.. or rather their expiration dates. Every year, she renewed my domain names.

The whois database showed the two I needed the most, registered with two different registrars. They still showed my name as the registered owner. One had my previous address and the other had my address prior to that, on it. They were only being renewed for one year, at a time, so I just "kept keepin' on" as my step-momma would say.

I had contacted one of the registrar's for information about the legalities of this issue. It is technically "hijacking" in the modern of times we live in. The registrar told me that I had to prove I was the information on the registrations. I couldn't do that. My phone and address were no longer in Florida. Neither was she, for that matter.

So, last week, as I'm on hold with tech support for some domain issues, I plug in those old domains into the whois database that I'm staring at. "And what to my wandering eyes should appear?"

A new registrar name!

About this time, the blasting music stops and on the line is a tech, and I had to refocus.

The next day, I get back and do a more thorough whois "investigation" and I simply can't believe what I found. First, to my surprise, all of my domains have been released, now, except frommyownoffice.com!

In February, it was placed under private registration. Now, this is where I must tell all of you that this could easily happen to you, extremely differently than it happened to me, too. Let me continue explaining what appears to be "known" now, first.

When a domain name is registered "private", the name, address, and phone number of the person registering it, is hidden from public view. So it appears that I'm not on the registration information anymore.

At the bottom of the page there is a link to report false data connected to the whois report. I thought long and hard about this. Basically, what this means, is that if I can prove that an address is invalid, because postal mail was returned, or an email is invalid because email has bounced, then I can report false information. However, none of this information is available in a private registration.

There was ONLY one minor clue that I'm still connected to this site in the registration. There is a "last updated" date, an expiration date, and a creation date. The creation date is 11 October 2001. I registered that domain on that date.

Now, it appears that she has changed her business name on the registration, which I forgot to mention earlier, in my prior whois database research. And I also had seen a different registrar name, so she was able to change that, too. She was my admin. contact, as part of her previous business, for the domain name registrations. She has an open door to them.

So, here's my serious quandary right now. I have no problem, and I fully support private domain name registrations. I think the world is crazy and I don't think addresses and phone numbers should be available in public databases, like this. Its rather inexpensive to register them private.

But, do you think, that we, as citizen's and human beings with rights, should be able to also safeguard against our own information being erroneously used in these same private databases? So, don't let me search for the owner of a domain, but let me search your database for my own NAME!

I want to know when someone is doing something illegally, on the internet, and my name, address, and phone number are attached to the domain name registrations, but are not public knowledge, so I'm unaware of it!

What is wrong with this picture?

To make my matter worse. Some crap is being built on the domain name now. Its basically not so much "operational", but "there". It appears to be organized affiliate, or fed links. There is no contact information, no email addresses, nothing.. no service name of who is hosting the account, who is building the site, etc.

So, what did I do? Well, I registered frommyownoffice.net and I'm going to find a legal way to tell my story!

I know Kathleen's name. I know her business mailing address and phone number. I know one of the registrar's that she is affiliated with. I know her business name. I know her current domain. I don't have to disclose those things to tell my story. But I own the registration of that domain name, so am I wrong to exploit its story?

Her name is not associated on her "new" domain/website, but IS connected to her own registered domain, in a whois directory. I have not disclosed any specific information here that would link anyone to know who she is, unless they KNOW her.

Ironically, you might find it a great chuckle to know that her old domain and her current domain are both still registered to HER and are not privately registered. One was updated last month and one is expiring next month. There are two addresses and the same phone number.

MY domain is privately registered but her domain's are not?? Yeah, it seems legit to me, too! NOT!

As much as I've been answering a lot of Q and A blogs, lately, JoAnna had some fun questions that make my life a lot more boring than hers, so I stole it.. here ya go.. (JoAnna B is niece to Douggie B.. you should check out her blog.. won't take her long to notice all Douggie's "followers" or "worshippers" LOL) I cracked up at her "Only in America" Blog and its so true.. I used to work for an ATM company.. its on them all because its cheaper than making another mold and to stock and organize one machine is so much more efficient (even though you'd be surprised how many options that are available to banks!)

Trudy has a great "Don't Close the Blinds" story to explain to a child why we are at war. I really started way back with the Iranian crisis and hostages when I had to teach my children what all this middle east "attention" was when it started up again. Schooling at home allowed us the days and days of research and questions and answers to give a different perspective than just one text book's representation.

I do support our troops and have many opinions of whether we should be anywhere or not.. but its a good representation of why its so so too late and why just ignoring it doesn't work, either. I'd apply it as a lesson for everyday life.

We have to know when to stay out of the den of a sleeping bear, too, though. Or is it more to not let the bear hibernate???

14. If you're driving in the middle of the night, and no one is around you, do you run a red light? Only once and I still don't know why, I was just "somewhere else" in thought and my friend actually told me I ran it. I was in a residential neighborhood and even honked at the car that "cut me off" that had the green! Oh, to be 16-17 and non defensively driving.. ugh!

16. Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees? Well, The Dodgers or the Braves, actually. Go Marcus Giles! But for the sake of the question, I go with the Yanks, for sure.

17. Have you ever been Ice Skating? Well, yes, as a mom, who sat and watched her children learning. I really think that ice will hurt when I hit it and I know I will. So being an intelligent being and being able to add, its not going to happen in this lifetime.

18. How often do you remember your dreams? Not often. I have many journals but if I had a dream journal it would be blank, I think.

19. What's the one thing on your mind? Concern about the health of a dear friend.

20. Do you always wear your seat belt? Yes

21. What talent do you wish you had? I wish I could play the piano or paint even the "one stroke" method!

22. Do you like Sushi? Yes, if its cooked. I love eel, but avoid it (migraine trigger). I don't eat much cucumber anymore, unless its European (except in sushi). I don't like fake crab, either. My favorites are at sushi bars.. fried fantail with cream cheese, The Jax roll in Jacksonville, Florida, and Dynamite are some favorites.. I'll try any of it, if its not raw. I don't eat pickled ginger or wasabi. I prefer the rice on the outside, or "inside out" but I don't know why it matters to me. I even like it with brown rice. I prefer small rolls so you don't have to take a bite out of it.

23. What do you wear to bed? Well. Pajamas are my favorite clothing. I love them in cotton or satin. I love them with shorts or pants. I love pajama long shirts. I also love tanks and panties. I need someone else to "help" in the middle of the night with pets or children/family to get me in the buff all night long. Its also why I rarely sleep in just a tank and panties, too. I even love my plaid pajama pants that I wear in public that no one knows are jammies!! Men's cotton pajama pants are awesome too!

24. Do you truly hate anyone? I don't know anymore. I don't think so. There is such a fine line, though.

25. If you could sleep with one famous person, who would it be? No one, I would always want "more", so forget it.

26. Do you know anyone in jail? Sadly, yes!
27. What food do you find disgusting? Hmmm.. raw tuna or sushi, brussel sprouts, bad cole slaw,coconut grit (but love the flavor) orange carbonated soda, and olives. Is Beer a food?

28. Have you ever made fun of your friends behind their back? Yes, but I also agree, nothing that I would not tell them, say in front of them, or have already said to them. I'm with Carlos Mencia on this.

29. Have you ever been punched in the face? Well, I did get my jaw dislocated swing dancing one time with my ex-husband. I did not know it was dislocated for a few days, though. I just knew my mouth would not open and I couldn't do much more than stick a straw between my clenched teeth. Never trust your friends who are corpsman. I finally dug out a pain pill and when it started working, I laughed about something I had heard earlier that day, and it popped into place and was "all better" just like that!
30. Do you believe in angels and demons? Not in a way you'd think.

1. What is the weirdest place you've ever fallen asleep? On a curb in an alley, in a rather populated area. I was walking home from school and really not feeling well. I decided to sit for a few minutes and umm, then woke up! I have no idea why no one worried about me, saw me, reported me, etc.. nor do I know how long I was asleep either.

2. What is your favorite fantasy? Hmmm... to be treated well and have a safe environment to just be a mom in between feeling like someone's momma. The other is a beach cottage rental for a month, or the whole summer.. alone (similar reason to drive a Miata)! And also being a home owner with a home-based businss with food and sundries delivery. LOL

3. If you had the power to kill and could get away with it no matter what, would you use your power? Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.. grab a shovel!

4. Your secret vice is? Denial. I am not blog addicted. I am not addicted to chat. I also hate to answer the telephone lately. I do not own every journal that is beautiful YET. (or how about simply pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate.

5. What super power would you love to have? Seeing charming people for who they really are? Being a blind fly on the wall in the guy I'm dating's parentsbedroom. Or better..knowing for sure when you are being played or lied to.

8. Filet Mignon or Cheeseburger? Burger, but really I want the salad bar with great heart chunks of iceburg and romaine, cheese, beets, Chinese noodles *pref. dry rice*, and cottage cheese. Top it with a real read (not orange) French and a tad bit of Italian, shake Parmesan cheese on the top. I love to add a chopped up softer meat, like meatloaf or Salisbury steak or warm veggies and beans too.

9. Would you kill for the safety & security of another? No doubt. I don't live in Iran!

10. Ever been to jail? No, but I have a bail bondsman in Jacksonville, Florida! LOL

11. Ever cheated on a boyfriend, spouse or girlfriend? Yes

12. Highest education level? High school grad/ some college/ lot of life experience and self-learning.

Not being able to bill a doctor for your time when your appointment is two hours behind schedule, or is canceled on your machine but you never got the msg, like he'd give his time for nothing? Yeah!

My favorite class? Am I supposed to be a student? I am a lifetime student.. but I like them all.. I can tell you my least favorite in high school was English Lit and when my school went business prep and had a sub. Class for that, I flew out of that class just in the nick of hell time!

17. Your Dream Vacation? Just one? My first thought is “If I lay here. If I just lay here.. Would you lie with me and just forget the world?” Then I’d have to say some beach, sunsets, tropical punch, hard bodies to watch, great accents.. Then I think of what Kurt, from High School told me the last time I talked to him.. so its Bermuda!

25. Ever go camping? Yes, last Spring was a camping trip! 30 days with no electricity or running water. I have an elevated wonderful air bed that I wish I was on right now, a battery twice the size of my van, and all the accessories rigged for it. Had the charger but never needed it. I love a tent in the rain! I just hate mud while without a washing machine!

31. How old do you want to be when you have kids? Do you mean more kids? I don't know, old enough? Ditto Jesse’s answer here. I was 20, 22, 24 when my teens were born!

32. Do you collect anything? Books, Family History, Marcus Giles baseball cards, Bargains to eBay in this lifetime, and sterling silver charms and jewelry, beads?! Now I obsessively scribble. So I collect spiral bound notebooks, journals, and phoo phoo paper even to write grocery lists. I absolutely adore decorative post-it notes! I look for anything PINK, too! I guess this means I have to admit that I collect pens to go with those journals and I'm a bag Ho. I like organized mess. I love canvas bags. I love things with names on them. My name, your name? The names of my children? The name's of my unborn children?? LOL I'm also a fabric junkie. I collect quilt squares, love swaps, and remnants, buttons, etc!

33. Last time you got stopped or pulled over by a cop? 1994, wrongly. Went to court (always go to court a former highway patrolman told me, if your issuing officer can’t make it, you get to go home and are excused from it, odds are in your favor). Mine showed. Brought his kid. I’m so proud. I had all three of mine, as my witnesses had gone out to sea that morning, too. My youngest was 4 months old. I was a good mom and brought presents to occupy them, but they were both pulling at my skirts in a tiff when I was talking to the judge.. ugh! I apologized and explained why they were there. I had good documentation but did not end up needing it and I’m glad I get to share this cuz everyone needs to know this.. I didn’t know, but in California, the cop has to justify why he was where he was to pull you over. He told the court that he was called by the school he was standing near when he got me for going 38 in a 40 but tried to get me for school zone of 25mph! I also didn’t know that I had a right to question him in my own defense. I asked one question. “Sir, if you could please tell us which school called you out that day?” He replied, “I don’t remember exactly the name, this was a couple months ago, it was the elementary school behind where I was parked”. I just quietly said, “thank you”. Then, my famous words in my only courtroom drama worth repeating.. “Your honor, I’d like to present you with documentation that the elementary school that called this officer out that day was closed that day and the day before.” He tried to change his story, but the judge said his time was over. I took my babies home. Never let them win, when they are wrong. That cop pulled car after car over that afternoon. In California, the law says “when children are present”. It was almost 5pm, he pulled me in after he let one go and pulled another in after me! How many of those people didn’t know he was wrong and just paid it and then got jacked to renew or get cancelled by their insurance companies??? I hope his child learned something that day too.

34. Have you ever drank soda from a straw? Yes, from a glass with ice. Never in a can or bottle anymore.

36. Do you like hot sauce? Yes, but I’m afraid of it now. So I’m a mild wimpy saucer, now. I'm the type that loves you to get nachos at a movie so I can dip jalapeno's in the nacho cheese sauce. I'll empty the jalapeno container and use them as the chips!! YUM

37. Last time you took a shower? Okay, I’m cracking a gut thinking of Jesse’s “clean” comment again! I’m not telling! I am clean all the time!

41. Are you rich? I loved Jesse’s answer as its all I can really offer, too. I have three wonderful children, a great honest heritage that built my integrity 150+ years ago, and I still know my name! To me, that’s very rich! Rich isn’t ever measured in dollars in my book!

I opened this in Jesse's blog and well, as much as I avoided this when I found it in other blogs, by the skin of my teeth, I was caught.. so here it is.. I referred to full of me because I can't give one answer to a lot of them.. so I'm quite full of myself in this blog!

3. Do you own a gun? No, couldn’t move the body! My grandpa always said “if they fall out of the house, drag their asses back inside!” Did Grandpa say ass? LOL

5. Do you get nervous before "meeting the parents?" Only if I’m with my children. Children will find a way to embarrass you. I promise you this. This is extremely bad when meeting the parents is a meal, too. I’m rather likable; too, til mom finds out how old I am and that I have three children!

6. What do you think of hot dogs? Two words: Hebrew National ~ Kosher! No crap! All Beef. Capt Johns Rolls a super plus.. toasted, too!

7. What's your favorite Christmas song? Hmmm, must we go here? There is this great CD of RM’s that sing a rendition of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and one guy brings his young daughter, who sounds about four years old, and these are her responses: (used to laugh and call him names) “Like Loser”, (reindeer games)“Like Chutes and Ladders, Duck, Duck Goose, and Parcheesi!!”, (Santa came to say)“My Precious!”,(you’ll go down in history) “Like a light bulb” that my kids love so much and I love hearing them sing it over and over and it never gets boring! Especially their “MY Precious!”

11. What's your favorite piece of jewelry? *remind self to ask Jesse about focus stone.. * I love all my jewelry. I don’t own a lot, but what I have is dear to me. I have a paper ring made for me by a high school boyfriend. It resembles the school class ring I could never afford to have. I still have it! I only don’t have my first set of wedding rings because they were stolen! I’ve already blogged my claddaugh ring. I have this great silver ring that fell off my finger two weeks ago (lost ten more pounds).. it looks like someone stretched the sterling and dropped it and it shape is <3 like I have used online.. Sideways heart.. its so kewl. I have a sterling scroll pattern thumb ring that is the only piece of jewelry on my hands at the moment. I never thought myself to ever wear a ring on my thumb. That is so “my mom”. Anyway, I bought this ring on my way to the doctor’s one afternoon, on the fly, on sale at some clothing store, and it was too big. The receptionist said “put it on your thumb!” I told her I just couldn’t do that. I went back to exchange it for a smaller size and found my thumb ring!!!! I just love it. Thanks Leanna. Okay so then I have this pair of jade and sterling ear rings I Found at Target while on that camping trip, last Spring, that I needed for St. Patricks Day. I found this gorgeous matching butterfly/silver pendant on QVC! I’m almost done.. I have this magnetic necklace that I think really does help my neck pain sometimes, and I have these awesome self-made and gift given hand beaded anklets and bracelets.. I’ll blog them sometimes in the future. Hell, this is full of me Friday now! (this is a whole blog in itself if I don't shut up here!)

23. Current hate? Drama and Spam! I'm also very discontent that my eldest daughter isn't speaking to me, did not wish to come down for Thanksgiving, told me so, I told her I loved her and not to wait too long to regret this, she said "Ok, I love you too". Then today I find she's disconnected me from her Myspace! I think its because I tried to tell her about some boy connected to her that I was worried about and she then informed me she had recently gone out with him. His Myspace worried me. Her father was upset when he thought she had a photo of herself on it, as he misunderstood how I snagged those photos sent/uploaded by her friend.. but she does have a new photo up and mom is out.. so dad needs to know now. I don't want to be the bad guy but I'll do it for my children.

If I’m wearing it outside: Red or Beige. I love to wear white when I’m at home, on high thread count white sheets too.. I’m only spoiled with Down and expensive bedding.. its all about sleep I don’t get, right?

33. What songs do you sing in the shower? Can’t think now that I’m singing “sing a song”. I love to sing. Its one of my favorite things to do. Lately I’d have to say its ta da again “If I lay here… If I just lay here.. Would you lie with me and just forget the world?” I just rented season one of Grey’s Anatomy and 1 and 2 of 5 of Season 2! I’d really like to see/beg/borrow anyone’s seasons of Gilmore Girls!!!! I’d like to start at the beginning and watch them all with my daughter.. but ouch at that sticker shock! I can’t find any downloads.. I even bought a subscription to find them.. no luck. Need to figure out that too.. where is that site?

34. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child? Everything. If I wasn’t safe at Grandma’s house, my life was very unpredictable and it scared me to go to sleep and not know what might happen before dawn. I had moved in the middle of the night after trading “new friends” received as gifts with a friend, for the night, when i was eight.. Mine was a bear, her’s was a monkey. I still have that Monkey. I will always feel bad for never returning it. Wonder if my brother remembers its name? I can’t remember.

35. What's in your pockets right now? Air?

38. Worst injury you've ever had? Yes, I agree.. my broken heart is the worst. AS for physical injuries.. well, I turned my foot over the last Saturday of my junior year, in the opening softball game! My whole Senior summer was spent elevated and crutched. It sucked. I took my finals with a wheelchair I thought Kurt would kill me in, even broke the splint on my leg. We had our first date that night too. I got him a pass from classes to come get me and take me to my next class fr finals. He ended up having a gf then.. but he called to have me take him to pick out his classes by the end of summer and he didn’t have that gf for a couple months by then.. it was bittersweet for a few months.. when I could walk again. I’ll blog our first date sometime soon.

I reinjured this same foot in the same place, about 1998, I think. I stepped off of a patio onto a stepping stone. I had done this a thousand and two times before. I planted that stepping stone! My left foot wobbled and twisted out from under me, the right foot did the same and there I was laying over a bush, in the grass, feeling like I'd been axed at both knees. I could feel nothing below my knees.

I was dropping off the children with their father to meet a friend for a movie as my boyfriend was working late that night. The children made a towel road for me to crawl back into the apartment when I could finally move. I could not support my left foot in the air at all to crawl. I knew something major had happened.. I'll blog this as its that big of a story.. needless to say, I had no medical insurance and my boyfriend was working for an ortho surgeon that night (on his home theatre) and he asked him what the cheapest route to go would be and the guy gave him his pager number. A week later, I couldn't get up the steps into this man's home, so he checked me out in his front yard, on those steps. He ordered x-rays at "doc in the box" (his words) and read them in his front yard. Left foot torn ligaments with bone chips/fragments.. broken foot! Right ankle sprained. Now who the hell walks and hurts both feet? You need at least one good one. I turned 30 in a wheelchair and cried through dinner because I was in so much pain. Should have had him write me a script.. learning lesson eight thousand and five?

40. How many TVs do you have in your house? Four? Matthew had to leave his in Virginia for now.. We have that many cell phones too, and no land line! Someone is always reachable.. in the house, out back, or plain not here!

41. Who is your loudest friend? Well Jesse says he’s his loudest so he must be mine, too, but I have not heard him.. hint hint.. I have free long distance dammit.

44. Do you wish on shooting stars? Yes, all the time.

45. What is your favorite book? Well.. Orel Hershiser’s Between the Lines and Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in heaven! I have several "started" right now, so this may get added too soon.

46. What is your favorite candy? I firmly have this "adult candy bar vs child candy bar" law in my home. Adult candy includes: Lindt Lindor Truffles, Almond Roca (appropriately in a pink bag! but not as good as my homemade toffee), Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares with Caramel, etc. Everyone knows not to eat MY Candy, which is referred above as "adult". Its really just an unspoken rule! Adult chocolate is a perfect piece of sin!

Everyday candy includes: Payday, Spree or Jolly Ranchers when I’m reading. Even Starburst came out with a California flavor pack a few years ago that was so perfect. See that Cali girl in me will never die!!

Skor is preferred over Heath, if Ben & Jerry could get the memo! Red Vines !! In the West you find Red Vines in the movie theatres, in the South and east, where I am now, its icky other licorice! I love the mixed bag of mini's for a tiny chocolate treat. My favorite lately has been snickers.

I also adore salt water taffey that has no salt water in it whatsoever and never has! Anyone remember taffey pulls when you were growing up?

But I like the cookie candy bars.. Twix and Kit Kat and I misss terribly PB MAXX from the 80's, anyone remember that fantastic candy bar? Or Marathon? The braided caramel dipped in chocolate? Or Flicks? They were like large sized choclate drops that we bought at the drive-in movie in a tube shaped box! What about Abba Zabba? Was that a West Coast thing? It was peanut butter filled white taffey! Anyone remember these?

My grandmother used to love this one particular candy bar called U-NO. It was silken type chocolate dipped in chocolate. I thought it had disappeared but I found it near the Grand Canyon, in January 2000, and I bought a few bars to eat and one to put in Grandma's shadow box!

47. What song do you want played at your wedding? Jesse’s getting married again and so am I. I have no idea what song though.. depends on who I marry. Depends on if we dance and if we have a first dance.. ya know?

48. What song do you want played at your funeral? “In My Life” by the Beatles, but I’m very fond of Chantal Kreviazuk’s rendition from the Theme Song to the television show I miss, Providence.

49. What were you doing 12 AM last night? Walking in Blogland and chatting.

What Does Your Music Say About You?

I came upon this blog today.

It made me think about this blog post that I put up, in June. I remember thinking about every song that I listed... and wondering if it identified something about me..

I guess, in a way, it does identify me.. but not in the same ways that you may think.. it identifies my current mood, but not my everyday.

Do you wish to keep your song lists, play lists, etc private?

Is there something that you listen to, in your own, self-made, song lists that you'd rather the world not know about you?

What type of music would surprise you to know that I listened to or enjoyed, even?

The ringer on my cell phone is never on. Mostly because I am a chronic insomniac and I don't wish to be awakened by the phone, in a way, that makes my heart jump out of my chest. As it is, the vibration does wake me up, often.

However, when I purchased my phone, I told the salesman that I'd only buy the contract if it included the Black Eyed Peas ring tone. I did. He had it on his own personal phone, and gladly honored my request.

The problem with this is..

When I'm out with my girls, we start dancing and singing and don't answer the phone. LOL Worse, though, when I'm alone.. its so embarrassing!

I'll do the electric slide, to music playing from the ceiling speakers, at Home Depot, but I won't jam to Black Eyed Peas when I'm alone, in public. What does that say about me?

I've been caught with audiences watching my electric slide, and yet I still keep doing it..

What's the real difference?
